The Nilgiri Mountain Railway is one of the oldest mountain railways in India. The Nilgiri Mountain Railway was declared by the UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in July 2005. This railway links Ooty to the town of Mettupalayam at the foot of the hills. The Nilgiri Passenger train provides a convenient connection to the Nilgiri Express train to the state capital, Chennai via Coimbatore. Coonoor was the original termination point of the Nilgiri Mountain Railway in the hills, before the line was extended to Ooty.
Masinagudi
Masinagudi is a sleepy village near Ooty, bordering the Mudumalai forest. It’s accessible in half an hours drive from Ooty and in an hour from Ooty. Masinagudi is still unspoilt and charming and jungle safaris in Masinagudi is very popular.
A beautiful hill station over shadowed by the popularity of Ooty, Coonoor is a smaller hill station about 20 kms from Ooty. Coonoor is gaining popularity amongst tourist looking for some quite time away from the commercialization and choose Coonoor over Ooty. Masinagudi an erstwhile elephant corridor is near Coonoor and you might just spot a tusker on the road itself!!
