Around Gokarna - Dakshin Kashi..
Apart from the four beaches seperated by small hillocks Gokarna is famous for the atmalinga shiva temple of Mahabaleshwar. Apart from the Mahabaleshwar Temple there is Maha Ganapathi Temple, Uma Maheshwari Temple, Bhadrakali Temple, Varadraj Temple, Tamra Gauri and Venkataramana Temple in Gokarna.
Kudle beach continues up to Paradise beach across Om beach and Half moon beach which are very popular amongst foreign tourists.
Beyond Paradise beach there are small beaches like Belikan where the Aganashini river meets the Arabian sea. Across the Aganashini river is Barka beach sandwiched by hills on either sides. The view from atop the hill after Barkha beach is awe inspiring with a 180 degree view of the tuqoise blue sea.
Jog Falls - Asia's Tallest Falls
Asias tallest uni-tiered waterfalls - Jog Falls, is where the Sharavati river plunges to a 253mts drop in four distinct cascades, Raja Rani Rocket and Roarer. In the Shimoga district of Karnataka, Jog Falls is about 100 Kms from Gokarna.
Karwar at 60 Kms from Gokarna is famous for the Tagore beach at the confluence of the Kali river and the Arabian sea. Karwar beach is a thin strip of white sand beach just ideal for a walk. About 6 kms from Karwar town across the Kali river is the Sadashivgad fort built on a small hill. There is an ancient durga temple near the Sadashivgad fort. The Karwar port earlier known as Baithkol is also worth a visit. Karwar jetty is the base to visit the Devbagh and Kurumgad.
